Why I did the SMP:

I decided to work as an Ivy Insiders branch manager because I wanted a job where I could really reach my potential. I had worked at a regular 9am-5pm internship before, and I felt like I was really only working for about three hours a day. I thought that by managing my own branch I would be able to choose when to work and how to make the most of my time. The great thing about being a branch manager is that your success is proportional to the work you put into it. If you're willing to work hard, expect big results!

About my experience:

Being a branch manager is one of the most rewarding things I have done. I had a tremendously satisfying summer experience--I tried new things, solved challenges, learned a lot about myself, and made a difference for my students. Working with Ivy Insiders was an unparalleled opportunity for personal growth. Whether I was making presentations to parents, meeting with school administrators, or teaching a classroom full of high schoolers, I found myself in roles as a college sophomore that most people don't reach until after they've graduated. The personal and professional support from Central and my Regional Manager kept me enthusiastic throughout the summer, and the profit-sharing system was great motivation too!

Teaching was the best part of the job. I felt that every hour I spent teaching, tutoring, and answering students' questions was well spent. I came away from the summer knowing that I had helped every one of my students, and they have been emailing me updates all year on their SAT scores and college acceptances. Every time they share their successes and victories with me, I remember why I wanted to teach in the first place. A summer job isn't just about money and experience--the best ones encourage you to grow and thrive, and they help you make a difference along the way.
